Estimate the running cost of an air fryer per meal.
An air fryer's running cost is its rated power in kilowatts multiplied by the hours it runs and by your tariff. One correction matters: the rated wattage is peak draw, and the thermostat cycles the element off once the chamber is at temperature, so average consumption is roughly 70 percent of the rating. That duty cycle is applied here. It also explains why air fryers beat an oven for small portions — not better efficiency per watt, but a chamber a fraction of the volume that preheats in three minutes instead of fifteen and cycles off sooner.
Energy per meal
kWh = (watts / 1000) x ((cook + preheat minutes) / 60) x 0.7
Running cost
Cost per meal = kWh x rate per kWh; annual = cost x meals per week x 52
The rating is peak draw. Once the chamber reaches the set temperature the thermostat switches the element on and off to hold it there, so average consumption across a cycle sits well below the rating. Ignoring this overstates running cost by around a third.
For one or two portions, clearly. A small chamber preheats in about three minutes against fifteen or more for an oven cavity and needs less energy to stay hot. For a full family meal the advantage narrows or reverses, because you end up running several batches.
