Check bike share membership value.
Bike share membership is a classic fixed-versus-variable trade: pay once and rides are effectively free up to a time limit, or pay per ride and owe nothing when you do not use it. The break-even is the annual fee divided by twelve times the single-ride price — a 120 dollar membership against 3.50 rides pays for itself at under three rides a month, which is why membership suits almost any regular user. The line that catches people is overage. Most schemes include 30 or 45 minutes per ride and then charge by the minute, so a member who consistently rides 50 minutes is paying a variable cost the headline fee hides.
Bike Share Value
Casual cost = rides per month x 12 x single price; membership total = annual fee + overage minutes x rate x 12; break-even rides/month = fee / (single price x 12)
Almost always if you take three or more rides a month, since annual fees are typically priced at 30-40 single rides. Below that, casual pricing is cheaper.
Dock and re-check out. Most schemes reset the included time on a fresh checkout, so on a long journey a 30-second dock at a station midway costs nothing and restarts the clock.
