Work out bot traffic percentage instantly with clear inputs, formula shown and shareable results.
Automated traffic routinely accounts for a third to a half of requests on public sites, but the split between declared good bots — search crawlers, monitoring, partner integrations — and malicious automation is what determines the action. Good bots should be allow-listed and rate shaped; bad bots represent both a security risk and a direct infrastructure bill for traffic that generates no value.
Bot traffic split
bad bots = identified bots - good bots; share = bad bots / total requests; cost = bad bots x price per million / 1e6
By reverse DNS on the source address followed by a forward lookup, or by the published address ranges of the operator. Trusting the user agent alone is trivially spoofed.
Blocking search crawlers destroys organic traffic, and blocking monitoring breaks observability. Bot management is about classification and shaping rather than blanket denial.
