Business data requirements split into per-seat traffic, which scales with headcount, and infrastructure traffic such as cloud backup and file sync, which does not. Sizing a plan on the baseline alone leaves no room for a busy month, a new hire cohort or a large one-off restore, so a headroom percentage is added on top. Thirty percent is a common starting point for a stable team; faster-growing teams need more.

Baseline GB = employees x GB per employee + cloud sync GB; recommended GB = baseline x (1 + headroom)
A typical knowledge worker runs 8-15 GB a month on a shared office connection: email and SaaS are small, and video conferencing dominates. Roles doing heavy media or CAD work over the network can be several times higher.
Because backup volume tracks the size of the data set, not the number of people. A ten-person firm with a 2 TB shared drive can generate more sync traffic than a fifty-person team with light file usage.
Often, for a business. The cost of an overage or a throttled connection during a busy period usually exceeds the premium for an unmetered business line, which is why headroom sizing matters mostly when unmetered is not available.
