Count calories in coffee drinks.
Coffee itself is about 2 kcal a cup, so essentially everything in a milky coffee comes from what is added. Milk volume is the dominant term — 200 ml of whole milk is around 128 kcal, which is why a large latte can approach a light meal while an espresso is negligible. Sugar is priced at 16 kcal a teaspoon and a standard flavoured syrup pump at roughly 20 kcal. Splitting out the milk share shows immediately whether switching to a smaller size or a lower-fat milk beats dropping the syrup.
Per drink
kcal = milk ml x milk kcal per 100 ml / 100 + sugar tsp x 16 + pumps x 20 + 2
Daily
Daily coffee calories = calories per drink x drinks per day
These figures are population-average estimates for general planning only and are not medical or dietetic advice. Individual energy and nutrient needs vary widely with body composition, activity, medication and health status. Consult a qualified health professional or registered dietitian before making significant changes to what you eat, and especially if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, are under 18, or have a medical condition or a history of disordered eating.
Whole milk is about 64 kcal per 100 ml, semi-skimmed 47, skimmed 34 and unsweetened almond around 13. On a 200 ml latte that is a spread of roughly 100 kcal per drink, or 700 a week at one a day.
Set the pumps to zero and they effectively drop out — most sugar-free syrups are under 5 kcal a pump. The milk term will then dominate the total.
