Find the ideal driveway width and length for your cars.
Driveway sizing comes down to a parking bay per car plus room to open a door. Ten feet per bay is the residential standard: 9 ft is legal in most places but leaves you edging out of the door, and 12 ft is generous. A single-car drive is therefore 10 ft wide, a two-car side-by-side drive 20 ft. Length is set by the longest vehicle plus about 4 ft so you are not overhanging the pavement or the garage threshold, and a tandem layout multiplies that length instead of the width. A turning apron adds roughly 6 ft of width and is what lets you leave the property forwards rather than reversing into the road.

Twenty feet for comfortable side-by-side parking. Eighteen is the practical minimum and means one person always has to get out first.
Around 22-24 ft of clear run. A full-size pickup is 19-20 ft, and anything under that plus a couple of feet leaves the tailgate over the footpath.
