A fraction is simplified by dividing the numerator and denominator by their greatest common divisor (GCD). The result is the smallest whole-number ratio equal to the original.
Simplified fraction
Simplified = (Numerator ÷ GCD) / (Denominator ÷ GCD)
Decimal and percentage
Decimal = Numerator ÷ Denominator; Percent = Decimal × 100
The GCD is the largest number that divides both the numerator and denominator exactly. Dividing both by it reduces the fraction to lowest terms.
Divide the numerator by the denominator to get a decimal, then multiply by 100. For example, 18/24 = 0.75 = 75%.
