A ratio quoted as 50 : 1 means fifty parts petrol to one part oil, so the oil volume is the petrol volume divided by 50. Working in millilitres makes the small oil quantities easier to measure.
Two-stroke mix
oil (ml) = petrol (L) × 1000 / ratio
5 / 50 = 0.1 litres, that is 100 ml of two-stroke oil.
