Work out g force instantly with clear inputs, formula shown and shareable results.
One g is 9.80665 m/s2 by definition, so dividing an acceleration by it gives the familiar g figure. At 29.4 m/s2 a 75 kg person experiences 3 g and feels as if they weigh 225 kg. Human tolerance depends heavily on direction and duration - a few seconds at 9 g is survivable for trained pilots, minutes are not.
g conversion
g = acceleration / 9.80665
Apparent weight
W = m x acceleration
The ground pushes up with your weight, which is what your body senses. In free fall you would sense nothing, which is why orbit feels weightless.
Head-to-foot loading is worst, because blood drains from the brain. Chest-to-back is far more tolerable, which is why astronauts launch lying down.
