See how much loyalty program points and discounts save you yearly.
Loyalty programmes pay in two currencies: points, which are worth whatever a redemption converts them to, and member-only prices, which are a straight percentage off. Valuing points at their real redemption rate rather than their count is the key step — a point is rarely worth a unit of currency. Adding both streams and dividing by annual spend gives the effective discount, which is the figure to compare between supermarkets.
Loyalty value
Yearly savings = annual spend x points per unit x point value in cents/100 + annual spend x member discount/100
Divide the cash value of a typical redemption by the points it costs. Redemption rates vary widely by category, and vouchers usually beat merchandise.
They are designed to. If joining a scheme raises your basket size, the extra spend can easily exceed the savings shown here.
Only where you already shop. Splitting spend across stores to collect in several programmes usually dilutes the effective discount in each.
