Rotation frequency is the number of genuinely available engineers multiplied by shift length, and leave has to be deducted or the rota looks healthier than it is. Six engineers on weekly shifts gives roughly six weeks between turns, which is around the minimum most teams find sustainable — below a month, on-call becomes the dominant feature of the job.
