Salt dose is the ppm increase times pool volume, converted to kilograms. Salt is not consumed by the chlorinator — it only leaves through splash-out, backwashing and rain overflow — so top-ups are far smaller than the initial fill.

The chlorinator converts salt to chlorine, which then reverts to salt after doing its work. Only water loss removes it.
