Valet parking bills by started day rather than by elapsed hours, so half a day costs a full day and the charged days are rounded up. Tips are the part people forget: they are per retrieval, not per day, so a hotel stay where you take the car out each morning accumulates them faster than the day count suggests. Oversize surcharges for large SUVs and vans are applied per day alongside the base rate, since that is how operators levy them.

Total = valet charges + retrievals x tip per retrieval
Usually by 30 to 50 percent where both are offered, and the gap widens once tips are counted. Valet buys convenience and, at some venues, the only available option.
Common practice is to tip on retrieval only, which is what this calculation assumes. If you tip both ways, double the retrieval count to reflect it.
