Work out altitude acclimatisation instantly with clear inputs, formula shown and shareable results.
Above 3,000 m the accepted guidance is to raise sleeping altitude by no more than 300-500 m a day, with a rest day for every 1,000 m gained. What matters is sleeping altitude, not the high point reached — climbing high and sleeping low is the standard technique.
Acclimatisation
days = altitude gain / daily sleeping gain + rest days; recommended rest is one day per 1000 m
Because acclimatisation happens over hours of sustained exposure. A brief visit to a higher point stimulates adaptation without the overnight stress.
Headache, nausea, fatigue and poor sleep indicate acute mountain sickness. The only reliable treatment is to descend.
