Estimate value of a board game collection.
A board game collection has two very different values. Its resale value is what you invested multiplied by the fraction the second-hand market retains — commonly around half for ordinary titles, more for out-of-print ones. Its use value is cost per play, which falls every time a game hits the table and is the figure that tells you whether a shelf of unplayed boxes is a hobby or a storage problem.
Resale value
Resale value = games owned x average price paid x retained fraction
Cost per play
Cost per play = total invested / total plays logged
Widely printed modern titles in good condition commonly fetch forty to sixty percent locally, less after shipping. Out-of-print and limited editions can exceed the original price, which is why the field allows over one hundred percent.
Substantially. Punched components, missing inserts and shelf wear typically knock ten to twenty-five percent off, and a missing piece can make a game close to unsellable.
