Work out conductivity of solution instantly with clear inputs, formula shown and shareable results.
A conductivity meter measures conductance, which depends on the geometry of the probe. Multiplying by the cell constant removes the geometry and gives conductivity. Dividing conductivity by concentration gives molar conductivity, the per-mole ion mobility that lets different electrolytes be compared. 1.5 mS with a unit cell constant at 0.01 M gives 150 S cm2/mol.
Conductivity
kappa = conductance x cell constant
Molar conductivity
lambda = 1000 x kappa (S/cm) / concentration (mol/L)
Ions interfere with each other at high concentration. As the solution is diluted the value rises towards a limiting value at infinite dilution.
It is an approximation using a 640 conversion factor typical of mixed salts. Meters let you pick 500-700 depending on the water.
