Fuel burn rate is simply fuel consumed divided by hours flown, but it is the number every other fuel calculation depends on: endurance, range, reserves and cost per hour all scale from it. Use block fuel and block time for a planning figure, or airborne fuel and airborne time for a cruise-specific figure.
