Work out crane moves per hour instantly with clear inputs, formula shown and shareable results.
Crane productivity is measured two ways: gross moves per hour over the whole working period, and net moves per crane hour excluding recorded delays. The gap between the two quantifies exactly how much throughput lost to stoppages, hatch cover moves and lashing waits.
Crane productivity
gross = moves / hours; net per crane hour = moves / (crane hours - delay hours)
Marine results are planning estimates only. Verify against the vessel's approved stability booklet, loading manual, class society rules and applicable maritime regulations before loading or sailing.
25-35 net moves per crane hour is typical for modern ship-to-shore gantries, with berth productivity of 80-120 moves per hour when several cranes work one ship.
It is what determines the ship's port stay. Adding a crane raises berth productivity even if each crane's own rate falls slightly.
