Producing gas-oil ratio is standard cubic feet of gas per stock tank barrel of oil. A rising GOR usually signals reservoir pressure falling below bubble point or gas cap breakthrough, both of which reduce ultimate oil recovery. Multi-stage separation recovers extra liquid, typically 3% per additional stage.

Free gas flowing to the wellbore steals pressure energy that would otherwise drive oil, and gas has far lower value per unit energy. Recovery falls once the reservoir goes below bubble point.
