Work out hourly sales target instantly with clear inputs, formula shown and shareable results.
Retail sales concentrate heavily into a few hours, so hourly targets must be indexed to the trading pattern. Peak hours commonly deliver two or more times the average hour, which is what determines when staff must be on the floor rather than in the stockroom.
Weighted hour total
Weight total = Off-peak hours + Peak hours x Peak index
Peak hour target
Peak target = Daily target / Weight total x Peak index
Divide average sales in each hour by the average hourly figure across the day, using at least four weeks of point-of-sale data.
Because labour scheduled to a flat average leaves peaks understaffed and off-peak overstaffed, which costs both sales and wages.
