Score factors in job satisfaction.
Job satisfaction research consistently finds that pay predicts it less strongly than people expect once basic adequacy is met, while manager quality, autonomy and meaning predict it more. This scores five factors on a ten-point scale and lets you weight pay explicitly against the rest, with the remaining weight split evenly across the other four. Naming the weakest factor is the useful output: satisfaction is usually limited by one dimension, and improving it beats marginal gains everywhere else.
Weighted score
Score = (pay x pay weight + the other four factors x (1 - pay weight) / 4) x 10
Gap
Points below a strong score = 80 - your score, floored at zero
Because its importance genuinely varies with circumstances. Someone stretched financially is right to weight it heavily; someone comfortable usually finds that raising pay moves their satisfaction less than fixing a poor manager.
Not on its own. Look at the weakest factor first — manager and workload problems are sometimes fixable in place, while structural limits on pay or progression usually are not.
