Work out lower explosive limit percentage instantly with clear inputs, formula shown and shareable results.
Percent LEL expresses how close an atmosphere is to being flammable. Because one volume percent equals 10,000 ppm, a reading of 2500 ppm in a gas with a five percent LEL is five percent LEL. Ten percent LEL is the usual first alarm and twenty-five percent LEL triggers evacuation in most permit systems.
Percent LEL
Percent LEL = measured ppm / (LEL percent x 10,000) x 100
Preliminary estimate only. Flammable atmosphere assessment requires calibrated detection and a permit system under the applicable regulations.
Percent LEL = measured ppm / (LEL percent x 10,000) x 100. Percent LEL expresses how close an atmosphere is to being flammable.
Because concentration can rise quickly and readings are point measurements. The margin allows time to withdraw before a pocket of gas reaches the flammable range.
