Each impairment is normalised to a 0–100 sub-score with a penalty slope reflecting how much real-time traffic tolerates it, then combined with weights that put loss and latency ahead of raw throughput. The MOS estimate applies the same impairments to the ITU five-point voice quality scale. A single number lets an SD-WAN policy or a monitoring dashboard rank paths consistently instead of arguing about which of four raw metrics matters most today.
