Figure final report card grades from weighted parts.
Report card grades combine the marking periods with the final exam, where the exam takes a stated weight and the marking periods split the remainder equally between them. The reported figure is then rounded to a whole number, and that rounding is not cosmetic: a raw 79.6 becomes an 80 and a B rather than a C at a half-point threshold. Showing the raw grade, the reported grade and the rounding effect side by side makes clear how close a borderline result actually is.
Weighted grade
Raw = (period 1 + period 2) x (1 - exam weight) / 2 + exam x exam weight
Reporting
Reported grade rounds up when the fractional part reaches the rounding threshold
Most do, but some round only from .5 within the final band, and a few truncate entirely. The threshold field lets you model your school's rule — set it to 1 to see the truncated result.
Only within its weight. At 20 percent, moving the exam from 60 to 100 lifts the final grade by eight points — enough for one band, rarely two.
