Grade Calculator
Calculate your weighted course grade from assignment scores and their weights.
Inputs
Each item is score:weight, e.g. 90:20 means 90% worth 20% of the grade.
Weighted Grade
82.50%
Total Weight Entered
100.0
Step by step
Multiply each score by its weight
90 × 20 + 85 × 30 + 78 × 50
= 8,250.00
Sum of all weights
= 100.0
Weighted grade = weighted sum ÷ total weight
8,250.00 ÷ 100.0
= 82.50%
How it works
Each score is multiplied by its weight, those products are summed, and the total is divided by the sum of the weights. If your weights add up to 100, that's your final percentage grade.
Formula
Weighted grade = Σ(score × weight) ÷ Σ(weights)
- sᵢ
- Score for item i (e.g. 90 for 90%)
- wᵢ
- Weight for item i (e.g. 20 for 20% of the total grade)
- ḡ
- Final weighted grade
Frequently Asked Questions
Do my weights need to total 100?
Not necessarily — the calculator divides by whatever the weights sum to, so relative weights work too. But for a true final grade, they should total 100%.
What grade do I need on the final?
Enter your known scores and weights, then add the final exam with its weight and try different scores to see the grade each would produce.
