Work out sericulture cocoon yield instantly with clear inputs, formula shown and shareable results.
Cocoon yield is quoted per 100 disease-free layings — 55-70 kg for bivoltine hybrids in good rearing conditions. Renditta is the kilograms of cocoon needed for one kilogram of raw silk, and a lower renditta means better cocoon quality; 6-7 is good, above 9 is poor.
Cocoon yield
Cocoon (kg) = DFLs x yield per 100 DFLs / 100
Silk equivalent
Raw silk = cocoon weight / renditta
Mulberry leaf quality and quantity, rearing house temperature and humidity, spacing during the fifth instar, and disinfection between crops. Leaf shortage in the fifth instar is the commonest cause of low yield.
Reelers pay on the silk they can extract. A batch with poor shell ratio and high renditta fetches a lower price per kilogram even at the same cocoon weight.
