See if a subscription is worth it based on your usage.
Any subscription can be reduced to a cost per use, and that single figure usually settles the question: a gym at four visits a month costs more per visit than a drop-in class. The break-even count — fee divided by what one use costs otherwise — is the usage threshold you have to clear each month. The total paid so far is the reminder that dormant subscriptions keep charging.
Subscription value
Cost per use = monthly fee / uses per month; break-even uses = monthly fee / cost per use without the subscription
Compare cost per use against the pay-as-you-go alternative. If you are below the break-even count for two or three months in a row, cancelling and paying per use is cheaper.
No — actual usage. Optimistic usage estimates are precisely why unused subscriptions survive for years.
Divide the annual price by twelve before entering it. Annual plans lower the fee but remove the option to stop, so the usage threshold matters more.
