Calculate the tip and split the bill evenly or unevenly across the table.
The tip is a percentage of the pre-tip bill. Add it to the bill for the total, then divide by the number of people to see everyone's fair share.
Tip = Bill × (tip% ÷ 100) Total = Bill + Tip Per person = Total ÷ people
Customarily tips are based on the pre-tax bill, but practices vary. Enter whichever amount you prefer to tip on as the bill amount.
In the U.S., 15–20% is common for sit-down restaurant service, with 18% a frequent default. Norms differ widely by country.
