Available channels are usable spectrum divided by channel width, so widening channels for peak speed directly reduces reuse options. The 2.4 GHz band offers only three non-overlapping 20 MHz channels regardless of settings; 5 GHz offers around 25 at 20 MHz with DFS enabled but only eight at 40 MHz without it, and 6 GHz transforms the picture with 1200 MHz.
Channel count
channels = usable spectrum / channel width; 2.4 GHz is fixed at 3 non-overlapping 20 MHz channels
In high-density deployments no. Wider channels raise peak speed for one client but slash the channel count, so co-channel contention lowers aggregate capacity.
Radar detection forces an immediate channel change, which interrupts traffic. Some client devices also support DFS channels poorly.
