Brickwork is ordered by count, and the count comes from the repeating module: the brick plus one mortar joint in each direction. A standard 215 × 65 mm brick on a 10 mm bed gives 225 × 75 mm, which is 0.0169 m² and works out at the familiar 60 bricks per square metre of single-skin wall. Multiply by the number of skins for a cavity or solid wall, then add 5% because bricks arrive chipped and every closer is a cut.

That is the arithmetic of the standard metric brick module. 1 ÷ (0.225 × 0.075) = 59.3, which the trade rounds to 60 per m² of half-brick (single-skin) wall.
Set the number of skins to 2. A cavity wall has an outer and an inner leaf, so it needs roughly 120 bricks per square metre if both leaves are brick.
