Day counting is where trip admin goes wrong, because nights and days are different numbers: a 1 June to 14 June trip is 13 nights but 14 days if both ends count. Nights drive hotel bookings, days drive leave requests, visa limits and per-diem claims. Subtracting the days spent purely getting there and back leaves the figure that actually matters for planning what you will do.
