Because not everything studied is retained, the daily target must be inflated by the reciprocal of the retention rate. Learning 3000 words in twelve months at 80% retention means studying 3750, or 10.3 a day. At about 90 seconds per new card including reviews, that is roughly fifteen minutes daily.
