GSM is grams per square metre, calculated from a cut sample: sample weight x 10,000 / sample area in square centimetres. A standard 100 cm2 GSM cutter makes the arithmetic trivial. Weight per linear metre follows by multiplying GSM by fabric width in metres, which is what governs roll weight and freight.
