Each illuminance unit is defined as a multiple of the lux, so the conversion runs in two steps: multiply by the source unit's factor to reach lux, then divide by the target unit's factor. One factor per unit covers every pair in the list. One lux is one lumen per square metre; the foot-candle is one lumen per square foot, hence the 10.764 factor.
