Work out sanitiser concentration instantly with clear inputs, formula shown and shareable results.
Active ingredient needed is target concentration in ppm times solution volume divided by 1000, giving grams. Dividing by the product's active strength gives the volume of concentrate. Efficacy depends on the product of concentration and contact time, so a weaker solution held longer can be equivalent.
Sanitiser dose
Active needed (g) = target ppm x volume (L) / 1000; product = active / strength fraction
CT value
CT = concentration (ppm) x contact time (minutes)
Sanitiser concentrations, permitted uses and rinse requirements are regulated for food contact surfaces. Verify concentration at point of use and follow the label and safety data sheet.
Chlorine 100-200 ppm for food contact surfaces, quaternary ammonium 200-400 ppm, peracetic acid 80-200 ppm. Higher is not better — excess leaves residues and can be corrosive.
Sanitiser depletes on contact with organic soil and degrades with time, light and temperature. Test strips or titration at point of use are required; the make-up calculation alone is not evidence.
