Work out split times instantly with clear inputs, formula shown and shareable results.
Even pacing means each split takes the same time: total time divided by the number of splits. A 50 minute 10 km needs 5:00 kilometres, so the halfway point comes at 25:00. Writing the splits on your hand and checking them at each marker is the simplest way to stop the common mistake of starting too fast.
Pace
pace = total time / distance
Split time
split = pace x split distance
This is an estimate from population-average equations, not a medical or diagnostic assessment. Individual results vary with genetics, training history and technique. Seek advice from a qualified coach or clinician before making significant changes to training.
For distances from 5 km up, near-even pacing produces the best times in almost all cases. Only very short races reward a fast start.
Typically 30-90 seconds over 10 km. The early time gained is repaid with interest in the final third.
