Free Unweighted GPA calculator with clear step-by-step results.
An unweighted GPA puts every course on the same 4.0 scale regardless of difficulty, so an A in an honours class and an A in a standard class both count as four points. It is a straight average of grade points over courses, with no credit weighting and no bonus for advanced coursework.
Grade point values
A = 4, B = 3, C = 2, D = 1, F = 0
Unweighted GPA
GPA = total grade points / number of courses
A weighted scale adds points for honours or advanced placement courses, often taking the maximum to 5.0. Unweighted caps at 4.0 and treats all courses equally.
Many recalculate their own unweighted figure from the transcript for comparability, then consider course rigour separately. Both matter, but they are assessed differently.
