Cumulative percentage is total marks obtained over total maximum marks across all subjects. It differs from the average of subject percentages whenever subjects carry different maximum marks, and the aggregate form is the one used for most eligibility thresholds.

Percentage = Total marks obtained / Total maximum marks x 100
Only when all subjects have the same maximum marks. Otherwise the aggregate weights subjects by their maximum, which is usually what regulations intend.
