Work out slitting yield instantly with clear inputs, formula shown and shareable results.
Slitting yield is the finished width recovered as a percentage of parent width. Edge trim removes the poor-quality outer bands, and each knife consumes a small allowance. Choosing a strip width that divides the usable width nearly exactly is worth far more than shaving the trim.
Slitting yield
Strips = floor((parent width - edge trim) / (strip width + knife allowance)); yield % = strips x strip width x 100 / parent width
Order parent rolls in a width chosen to suit the strip width, or combine two strip widths in one pattern so the remainder is used. A 10 mm mismatch on a 1250 mm roll can cost a whole strip.
Roll edges carry thickness variation, coating defects and handling damage. Running them through as product generates customer complaints far more expensive than the trim.
