Work out die size from gate count instantly with clear inputs, formula shown and shareable results.
Core area is gate count times area per gate divided by placement utilisation, then inflated for power rings, memories and margin. The result must be checked against the pad-limited size: if the die perimeter cannot host the required IO at the available pitch, IO count sets the die size instead of logic.
Die area estimate
core area = gates x gate area / utilisation; compare with pad-limited area = (pads x pitch / 4)^2
One where the perimeter needed for bond pads exceeds what the logic requires, leaving wasted silicon. Area-array flip-chip bumping avoids this.
65-80% for standard cell placement. Higher makes routing congested; lower wastes area.
