Work out stride length instantly with clear inputs, formula shown and shareable results.
Speed is the product of cadence and stride length, so stride follows from dividing speed in metres per minute by cadence. Running 12 km/h at 176 steps a minute gives a 1.14 m step, or a 2.27 m full gait cycle. Increasing speed is achieved mostly by lengthening the stride, since cadence rises only modestly with pace.
Stride length
stride = speed in m/min / cadence
Speed relation
speed = cadence x stride length
This is an estimate from population-average equations, not a medical or diagnostic assessment. Individual results vary with genetics, training history and technique. Seek advice from a qualified coach or clinician before making significant changes to training.
Not deliberately at the front - reaching ahead brakes you. Stride lengthens naturally as hip extension and push-off improve.
A step is one foot to the other; a stride is a full cycle of both. Some devices report stride as double the step length.
